Our presenter this week will be Ben Brustkern, who is the Executive Director at Friends of the Family, which is a non-profit agency that provides advocacy to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. They also provide education in the community and transitional housing to homeless families and individuals. Friends of the Family began in 1992 and aids people in 27 Iowa Counties
Invite Friends to the Pathways & Pollinators E-Club

District 5970 wants to let the community know of a new online club with in-person service opportunities in the District: Pathways & Pollinators.

The club will focus on the non-motorized paths that link our Iowa communities and the important "paths" we can help create by creating pollinator gardens. Club dues will be low, and the club will likely meet two to three times a month.

Invite a friend to learn more about the club at Zoom meeting on January 8 at 11:45am CT.

After registering, your friend will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. Interested? As you await for the virtual meeting, invite your friends and family members to check out the Paths to Pollinators Facebook page. Questions? Email Tina at dgtina2017@yahoo.com.

What you missed last week:
This week Theresa Mikkelson joined us from Toastmasters. She is immediate past district Director of Toastmasters and a Fellow Rotarian!  She shared with us information about a new alliance between Rotary and Toastmasters. The partnership was developed due to the similarity in structure and values of the two programs and online training courses including public speaking skills are currently available on My Rotary in the Learning Center. She also gave us some more background on Toastmasters and shared how it has benefited her by helping her to listen effectively, give effective feedback, speak effectively when called upon, and slow down her thinking and speaking. We thank her for joining us and her dedication to both Rotary and Toastmasters!

Rotary Opens Opportunities
Rotary is not just a club you join. It is an invitation to endless opportunities. It opens opportunities to serve in a project as big and historic as End Polio Now and also in a small community project, where you just plant a tree. It opens opportunities for you to live a richer, more meaningful life, with friends around the world, based on our core values. Everything we do opens another opportunity for someone, somewhere.
The 2020-2021 theme is: Rotary Opens Opportunities.
